Edgewise privacy notice

Version 1.0, 15 October 2026.

This notice covers the Edgewise app and the website edgewiseclimbing.com. The app shows it under About → Privacy notice, and the consent screen links to it. Its version is stored with each consent you give in the app.

In short

1. Who we are

Kamil Walter, the developer of Edgewise, decides why and how your data is used (the "controller").

Contact: beta@edgewiseclimbing.com.

2. The app: what it keeps on your phone, and why

Your profile (not health data): your name if you give one, your climbing grades, years climbing, discipline, sessions a week, the equipment you own and the plan style you pick. It builds your plan.

Health data:

It filters exercises around injuries, stages your return, and adjusts your loads from what you log.

Your consents and when you gave or withdrew them, so the app can show it acted on them.

Settings: theme, reduce motion, the grade scales you use, and whether you turned on the cycle-symptom log.

The app keeps health data only while your consent is active. Our legal basis is your explicit consent (GDPR Art. 9(2)(a) and Art. 6(1)(a)). Without it, the app can't build a plan, because the age limits need your birth date. You can still read the knowledge cards.

4. No account, no server, no backups

5. Export, delete and withdraw

6. The cycle-symptom log (optional)

You can choose this on the consent screen or in Profile. The beta doesn't have the log yet: turning it on stores only your choice. When the log arrives, this notice will say what it keeps before anything is recorded. Edgewise never changes your training load by cycle phase.

7. Sharing your test results for research (optional)

In short. If you choose to, you can send us a small file of your test results so we can learn how climbers improve with Edgewise. It is off unless you turn it on, it is only for people aged 18 and over, and nothing leaves your phone unless you send it yourself.

Why we ask. To learn how much climbers improve on each test over time, by sex, age, climbing level and plan style, and to check the test comparisons Edgewise shows you. The comparisons themselves keep coming from published research data.

What is in the file:

What is never in the file: your name, your birth date or any calendar date, your body mass or height, injuries, pain scores, check-ins, the energy check-in, your plans or your training log.

How it reaches us. You tap Send the file and choose how to send it, normally by email to beta@edgewiseclimbing.com. Your email shows who sent the file, so we can link your code to your email address. We save the file to the storage below, and delete the email within 30 days.

Where it is kept, and who sees it. On our server at OVHcloud in the European Union, in a private folder. The email that brings the file is in the beta@edgewiseclimbing.com mailbox, also hosted by OVHcloud in the European Union. OVHcloud processes both on our behalf under its data processing terms.

Only Kamil can open the files. We never sell them or give them to anyone else. When we publish or share what we learn, it is only as summaries of groups of at least 5 people, never one person's results.

Legal basis. Your explicit consent: GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and, because test results tied to your sex and age are health data, Art. 9(2)(a). This consent is separate from the one Edgewise needs to build your plan. You can use Edgewise fully without it.

How long we keep it. Until the end of the beta, plus 12 months. Then we delete the files and keep only the group summaries, which no longer relate to you.

Stop sharing. Turn it off any time in Profile → Share test results for research. Nothing more will be sent. Turning it on again later creates a new code. Turning sharing off doesn't delete files you have already sent: to have them deleted, email beta@edgewiseclimbing.com with your code (or from the address you sent them from). We delete every file with that code within 30 days and confirm by email.

If we ever want to use the files for another purpose, we will ask you first.

8. The website and joining the beta

Visiting edgewiseclimbing.com. The site sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other companies. Our host, OVHcloud, keeps standard server logs (your IP address, the page asked for, the time and your browser) to run the site and keep it secure, for a limited time it sets. That is our legitimate interest in a working, secure site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Asking to join the beta. The form asks for your name, your climbing grade, whether you boulder, climb sport routes or both, and your email address. It reaches us as an email to beta@edgewiseclimbing.com and is kept in that mailbox, hosted by OVHcloud in the European Union. We use it only to choose testers, invite you, and write to you about the beta. Our legal basis is your consent, given with the form (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). The beta is for people aged 18 and over.

When we invite you, your email address is added to the beta's tester list in Google Play, so Google can let you install Edgewise. Google handles it under its own privacy policy.

We keep your request until the beta ends, then delete it within 3 months, or sooner if you ask.

Google Play. When you install Edgewise from Google Play, Google may share anonymous statistics with us, such as install counts and crash reports. They don't identify you.

9. Your rights and how to complain

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, limit or object to its use, and receive it in a portable form. You can withdraw any consent at any time; that doesn't make what we did before unlawful. For data on your phone, the app's own Export, Delete and Withdraw do this at once. For anything you sent us, write to beta@edgewiseclimbing.com and we answer within one month.

No decisions about you are made automatically from data we receive.

You can complain to the Polish data protection authority, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych), ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw, uodo.gov.pl, or to the authority where you live.

10. Changes to this notice

When this notice changes, the version above changes too. If a change affects what you consented to, the app asks you again before anything new is kept.
